Our story
A team of passionate experts, born in 1988
Mecanum was founded in 1998 in Sherbrooke by Noureddine Atalla and Raymond Panneton, professors at GAUS (Groupe d’Acoustique de l’Université de Sherbrooke). We remain fully involved in research today, alongside GAUS and research centres around the world.
Our mission
To imagine and create innovative noise and vibration control solutions, every day
As a manufacturer of acoustic material characterization instruments, our team also offers consulting services in noise and vibration control, building and transportation acoustics, and poroelastic material characterization. We also develop custom vibroacoustic characterization and simulation software.
Our values
Professionalism
Achievement

Enjoyment of teamwork
Quest for excellence
Our team
A team of passionate experts, ready to answer all your questions about your acoustics and vibration control needs
Julien Biboud
PRESIDENT
Eng., M.Sc.A.
Julien built his expertise in acoustic eco-design and material characterization, then earned his Lean – Six Sigma certification running the commercial side of ICSV26. He leads Mecanum with that same technical sharpness.
Kévin Verdière
Vice-president and R&D Director
Eng., Ph.D.
Kévin’s postdoctoral work focused on developing better technologies for characterizing noise-control materials. With more than 10 published articles, he still gets a kick out of watching new methods actually work on the bench.
Rémy Oddo
Sales Director
B. Eng.
With more than thirty-five years in acoustics and vibration, spanning NVH, transportation, consulting, measurements and research — Rémy has likely already run into a version of your problem. Ask him; chances are he’s seen it before.
Jean-Philippe Regnard
Consulting Director
B. Eng., M.Sc.A.
In the acoustic field since 1999 and a Mecanum project manager since 2016, Jean-Philippe trained in Toulouse before specializing in eco-design at Sherbrooke. He treats every project like it’s the only one on his desk.
Vincent Paquet
Manufacturing director
Eng.
Vincent’s interest in acoustics took root during his studies at ÉTS, and he joined Mecanum in 2020 as a project manager before moving into production management. He’s hands-on at every stage and first to jump into a prototype.
Patrick Bouché
Project manager
Eng., Ph.D.
Patrick’s doctoral work on meta-materials led him to lead the Canadian side of NAIMMTA, a project developing next-generation thermal insulation for aviation acoustics. Eight years in, he still finds meta-materials genuinely strange.
Rabii Slimane
Project manager
Eng., M.A.Sc.
Rabii trained as a polytechnic engineer in Tunisia before specializing at Sherbrooke, genuinely energized by engineering puzzles. His work turns advanced techniques into product solutions that are practical, not just clever.
Mélina Plottin
Quality & Marketing manager
Eng.
Mélina spent over a decade in quality control and ISO systems before pivoting into marketing and communications at Mecanum. She brings the same rigor to a campaign that she once brought to an audit.
Léon Djikpor
Technical Sales Manager
M.A., M.Sc.
With 17 years in business development, Léon helps industrial and academic clients turn technical challenges into concrete solutions. He holds two master’s degrees: one in marketing, one in journalism.
Noureddine Atalla
Co-founder
Eng., Ph.D.
From ocean engineering in Florida to computational vibroacoustics in Quebec, Noureddine has built a career questioning how sound moves through materials. With 200 publications, he’s recognized worldwide and known for his hallway questions.
Raymond Panneton
Co-founder
Eng., Ph.D.
Raymond has spent his career modeling and optimizing acoustic poroelastic materials, publishing over 250 papers along the way. His latest focus: ecological, structured acoustic materials — still chasing the next problem worth solving.
Our clients
They trust us with their acoustics and vibration challenges, around the world
Great company! I bought one of their airflow resistivity machine for our lab, and everything went smoothly; I received the machine earlier than I expected. They thought about every aspect of their design, even their packaging. Also, they are very responsive and supportive.
