What is Frequency?

Frequency is defined as the number of cycles (or period) per second and is measured in Hz. In high frequency, the number of oscillations per second is high. The relation between the period T and the frequency f is T=1/f.

Did you know?

The low frequency limit of human hearing is 20 Hz (20 oscillations per second) while the high limit is 20 kHz (20,000 oscillations per second)!

Understand Sound Travel

Acoustic waves (sound) propagate at a speed c. During one period T, the sound will travel a distance equal to the sound speed multiplied by the period. This distance is called the wavelength.
