Custom acoustic measuring instruments
Built around your testing challenge
Standard instruments don’t always fit the job. Mecanum designs and builds custom acoustic measuring instruments tailored to your exact requirements, whether that’s a modified airflow resistivity meter, a non-standard impedance tube, or an entirely new system for a specific testing protocol. We combine engineering expertise with hands-on collaboration to turn your testing challenge into a reliable, accurate, and practical instrument.
Realisations
High-flow resistivity meter for snow testing
Built for snow and ice testing in cold-climate conditions, including operation inside commercial freezers and environmental chambers. Its electronics are certified for continuous use at -10 °C, where standard equipment would fail, and a wide-range mass flow controller keeps measurements accurate across resistivity levels, even in high-resistance snow and ice. A transparent, thermally insulated sample holder lets users watch the specimen in real time without compromising thermal control. Ideal for snow mechanics, environmental research, and cryogenic studies.
Airflow resistivity meter for wet sample testing
Tailored to ASTM C522 for wet and water-saturated materials, this system delivers accurate, repeatable results where off-the-shelf instruments fall short. A specially designed sample holder accommodates wet materials while directing runoff away from the electronics, keeping your lab dry and your data reliable. Ideal for insulation testing, bio-based composites, and porous materials that retain water.
High-level impedance tube for curved surfaces
Developed to evaluate aeronautic nacelle liners and other curved acoustic materials, this tube conforms to complex geometries while maintaining full ASTM E1050 and ISO 10534-2 compliance. Its curved interface eliminates the edge gaps and alignment issues that compromise accuracy, and a proprietary microphone-positioning tool holds exact spacing for precise phase correction, from aerospace labs to OEMs.

Custom-diameter and large-format tubes
When a standard tube doesn’t fit your materials or goals, we build the one that does, with custom sample holders, coupling systems, and test configurations. Recent builds include a 58 mm tube with a square-to-round sample adapter, a 1 ft × 1 ft low-frequency tube for large-format testing, and a reduced-section insert for earplugs and small components. We design around your materials, circular, square, or custom geometry, and integrate options like mass flow controllers for high-resistivity samples when needed.
