Tortuosity meter

Mecanum’s ultrasonic Tortuosity Meter (or ultrasonic Refractometer) is designed to obtain measurements of the tortuosity and characteristic parameter of a wide range of porous materials commonly used in noise monitoring.

Why choose Mecanum’s Tortuosity Meter?

Suitable for both resistive and low resistivity materials

Whether with the 1-gas or 2-gas option, Mecanum’s Tortuosity Meter uses transmission and reflection methods: transmission method is suitable for materials with low resistivity, while reflection method is more suitable for more resistive materials (requires porosity as an input parameter).

Made for quality control in production and suppliers control

This Tortuosity Meter can be integrated at the end of the production line to test product quality and consistency. The measurement procedure is simple and the software guides the operator to ensure a reliable response, without the need for long and costly training.

This system also allows you to quickly and reliably check the quality of your suppliers’ products. Tortuosity, equivalent length, viscous characteristic length and thermal characteristic length are key parameters governing the acoustic effectiveness of absorbing materials. Testing those parameters at the end of the production line ensures both the acoustic effectiveness of the material and the quality of the production line.
