From Material Characterization to System: Level NVH Modeling

We enable the development of effective NVH treatments at every stage—covering everything from acoustic material properties to full-vehicle vibro-acoustic models.

Our expertise includes:

• Complete acoustic material characterization laboratories with temperature dependant damping properties test bench (Oberst beam, Brake damping test following SAE J3001)
FOAM-X for advanced property determination and simulation validation.
NOVA for the design and simulation of complex multilayer sound packages (elastic, viscoelastic, and porous components).
VA-One integration for complete vehicle-level vibro-acoustic simulation.
AcoustaLink, a centralized database for managing and sharing material properties across teams.

These solutions ensure accurate data, efficient workflows, and optimized NVH performance throughout the vehicle development cycle.

Material Characterization and Measurement Capabilities

Reliable NVH design starts with precise input data. Our facilities provide state-of-the-art material characterization, including JCAL and Biot property measurements for acoustic materials.

To meet the needs of the electric vehicle (EV) industry, we have developed a high-frequency impedance tube (up to 10 kHz). We also provide adapters for testing intake and exhaust systems in internal combustion engines.

Additionally, damping plays a critical role in NVH, durability, and structural integrity. Our Oberst Beam system allows accurate damping material characterization across wide frequency and temperature ranges.

Choose between outsourcing material characterization to Mecanum or building your own in-house NVH lab with our instrumentation.

NOVA: Multilayer NVH Design and Simulation

NOVA enables engineers to design and simulate multilayer acoustic treatments using transfer matrix methods. It supports component-level and subsystem-level acoustic modeling.

Applications include:

• Optimization of complex multilayer sound treatments (elastic, viscoelastic, or acoustic layers).
• Advanced tools for both micro-macro material formulations and wave-number simulations of composites.
• Results sharing with Auralization tools for listening to treatment efficiency, plus automatic single-number ratings (STC, Rw, NRC, SAA, Aw).

With NOVA, engineers gain flexibility and precision in designing custom acoustic packages for automotive applications.
